1,2,3 - Counting Days !

Perpetual Calendar :

For someone who's pretty disciplined about dates, I'm always on the lookout for calendar ideas. One that I came across recently is Oscar Diaz's incredibly clever
self-initiated calendar. For 2011, I decided to make my own calendar - something that can be used year after year.
The mechanics :

I built my calendar using 31 picture frames for days of the month. They are spread out in blocks of 7 days (with 29th, 30th, 31st being the strugglers). The 'day of the week' tab is located on top in an acrylic pocket. I made 7 of these tabs to be changed monthly. Lastly the month is marked by chipboard alphas stuck on magnets. If you are interested in the full tutorial, I'll be posting it next month.

Quick Change :To move to another month (e.g. November 2010) just
  • Replace the FEB magnet alphas with NOV
  • Slot in the #11 playing cards instead of the #2s
  • Use a 'day of the week' tab that starts with Mon
Hanging it :

It's a pretty big calendar (12"x12" plus a 3" onion dome top) so I mount it on the refrigerator. I backed the whole thing on foamboard for stiffness with magnets on the four corners. An added advantage is that my magnet alphas stayed firmly in place - strongly attracted to the fridge door.

I smile every time I see those cute little Sassafras frames. Wonder what sort of calender do you use - the digi one on your iphone, a desktop flip calendar, or a little pocket one ?<
Linking up to these parties.

Sassafras Supplies :
Paper - Anthem wall of fame + ticket to freedom + classic, Cherry Delicious blushing + sapphire, Yummy Vintage memory lane, Apple Jack translate
Cardstock stickers - Pocket Full of Rosies, Indie Girl
Paper Whimsies - One thru Twelve, Via air Mail
In a Stitch Blossoms - Earth Tones
Garden Bits - Orange
Others : Making Memories Passport paper (diecut road sign), Petaloo Floral Doodles, acrylic sheet, magnet

My goodness, your talent is amazing! I love your "days" with the vintage-y art. It brings back childhood memories of my story books I read as a child; the art from Dick & Jane books or my Little Red Riding Hood book, etc. BEEutiful :)

I absolutely LOVE this! The framed images are too cute! Like the idea of changing out the days of the week instead of the days of the month. Much quicker fix! Love it!

I agree- the color and intricate detail in this design is FANTASTIC!!! LOVE this project. Thanks for your encouraging words on my "perseverance" entry! I no longer feel the same. I'm ok with simply designing and posting on my blog now but it felt good to let go and vent. I agree with you- it wasn't time for me to join a DT yet and it's better to keep working and growing. :)
