Bad Mama ?

This week I'm so pleased to guest design for Kirsty Vittetoe's City Crafter Challenge Blog where the hostess Linda Robinson set a theme of a Baby project with Buttons and Bows. I couldn't resist using my Best Creation stickers to make a whimsical altered project. Hope you'll hop over and play along too.

It's a Girl is for Linda's daughter

Using a supersized paperclip, I made this little decorative item for a baby girl shower. It was fun playing the various shapes : from the length of the giraffe's neck, through the swirly stems and circular florals. And it was a moment of pure serendipity when I saw the blue acrylic button with the word pure in my stash. It fit perfectly in the 'belly' of my Mama giraffe to represent the little baby that's coming.

On a separate note, I think I've been a bad Mama. I have two pairs of cukoo birds nesting in the lipstick palms. It's the season for baby birds to hatch and they are teaching their young to fly. But today Bun Bun struck and got one of the chicks. Where did I go wrong to have raised a birdkilling cat ? Do you let your cat out and do they hunt

Linking up to these parties.

Best Creation supplies : Safari Girl stickers, Safari Boy stickers and paper, Bunny Love stickers. Other supplies : Junkitz button, blue cord, 51cm blinder clip

Sandi what a cute clip, I love the button too!

I don't have a cat but aren't they hunters by nature? I don't think that's something you can train out of them... Sorry about the birdie... But Bun Bun is just doing his thing. :/

I love what you made for this challenge ... so very sweet ... Thanks so much for being our GD this week ... I've had lots of cats and my last one Miss Lisa ... looked just like yours and boy was she a hunter ... drove me mad! I've nursed so many birds over the years ... mice and frogs too!!

That is an awesome project Sandy, you should be to queen or altered items, as this is simply brilliant!
Thanks once again for being our guest, your work is so inspiring and I am sure my DT and readers at CCCB would agree 100% with me.

Sorry to hear about the chick, that is scary and sad.....

Sandy, this is so cute!! I love your baby project. Bun Bun is so cute, too, and I only think it's their natural instinct to hunt unfortunately. :( Our cat stays indoors.

this is so sweet! Love that giraffe, it's great when your supplies just work for what you need! I don't think you're a bad mama, it's nature. Your kitty is adorable, look at those eyes!

This is darling, Sandy! Love that giraffe! Yes, my kitty has been known to be bad, too. I'm always appalled, but then my husband reminds me that he's just being a cat!

I LOVEEEEEE your clip! What a brilliant idea especially since the clip can stand on its own! You're a genius! Now I might just have to go buy myself some giant clips to alter too :P

Well, I guess you can't really do much about what Bun Bun did, in a way, cats are natural predators... it's the same reason why they hunt rats and mouse too... hope you won't put the blame on yourself :)

Wonderful idea Sandy! I will try it!

My cats would do the same if they could go outside! Impossible to fight their nature!! ;)

Absolutely adorable! What a grand idea to "re-make" a binder clip...and with such cheery happy colors! Love it!

Yeah, it's pretty much kitty instinct to kill cute things. Fortunately mine stay indoors and only hunt the occasional bug.

You might try putting a bell on your kitty's collar to warn the birds. If Bun Bun is going outside it's probably a good idea to have a collar and tag on her anyway!

Oh my! Sandy!! This is so much fun! Just love the clip you have added. AND your Bun Bun looks just like my Henry, they could be twins. And yes of course he goes out but he is more of a rabbit lover, devours the whole thing, except the back legs. I guess he is full by then. I hate it. He loves it. It's the way the world turns I guess, the men are all hunter gatherers and us women folk must accept it. keeleyxx

Oh, cute!! Love the giraffe! :)

We used to have two cats growing up, and I think the bird-hunting is just in their nature! Our one cat used to bring her poor lil huntees onto the porch for mom to find, like she was proud or something! Goodness.

Hi Sandy

What a gorgeous little clip, perfect for a new Mum to be.

Love the clear little button for the tummy.

Yes I'm afraid my two cats are a manace to the birds in my garden. Luckily they are getting older now and like to sleep more during the day.

Michelle :-)

Awesome and fun creation Sandy! Lovely bright colours, too! I'm not a "cat woman" myself, but our neighbours have cats and once new nests are there, they usually tie little bells around their necks, so that bird mama knows danger is ahead, this might help?

Oh dear! I have cats but do not believe in outside cats - to dangerous for them in today's world. I don't live in a city but the wild animals on my property would think of my kitties as h'ordeurves! YIKES!
Alas, cats by nature are hunters so your kitty was only doing what it's nature called for. Don't be too hard on her - she was just being who she is - you are not a bad Mom!
I agree with Ira, try one of those kitty safety collars with a bell on it - that might help. (safety collars for cats are made to break away if the collar gets caught on something so they can get free - very important feature! We want to save the baby birds but we also want our kitties to be safe.
Hugs,
Beth P
