Loving apothecary labels

So thrilled to show off my first design project for Hobby Sew. The Pink Paislee Butterfly Garden ephemera packs had so many gorgeous apothecary labels. I used twenty of them to create these gift tags. Before sending the tags off for display in the store, I snapped these pictures of them nestled among the greens in my garden.

Helen, our DT coordinator, asked me to share some making-of shots so here is a quick walkthrough of my tag design process.

  1. Die-cut selection : Chose B&W or neutral labels and shapes as the 'supporting cast'. Then add one or two colourful items to be the 'star'

  2. Framework selection : I used some Accent Cut labels from Crate Paper to be the foundation. You can easily make your own by layering cardstock or stamping an ornate frame.

  3. Collaging : Floral shapes benefit from a little fussy cutting to allow it to 'overflow' naturally over other shapes

  4. Collaging : Don't be afraid to cut up a piece to extend it's length or width.

  5. Here they are all assembled

If you love that vintage apothacary label look in updated spring colours, than I highly recommend the Ephemera Pack punched up with some Butterfly Clear Pops. Although it looks like I layered many pieces per tag, there were still 60 odd pieces left . So I'll be making some home decor piece and gift-giving pieces next month.

Butterfly Garden Supplies : Ephemera die-cuts, Butterfly clear pops
Crate Paper Supplies : Portrait and Toy Box accent cuts paper
Others : baker's twine
